Ile Goree, an island off the coast, was a center for the slave trade hundreds of years ago. The reddish courtyard is the ruins where slaves were housed before shipment.

2000
This was a special trip for New Years 2000. Kathmandu I visited Buddhist numerous Buddhist shrines and witnessed a fiery funeral on the Ganges. In the Himalaya I saw Everest with my own eyes (pictured in the background of the final photo), visited Buddhist temples (Tengboche is also pictured below). For the NYE celebration in Namche Bazaar I partied with a couple of fellow backpackers with the molly I had managed to bring along from home.

This was a trip for our fifth wedding anniversary. We mostly stayed at a villa in Sarlat-le-Caneda, a lovely medieval town. Castles, cathedrals, the cave paintings at Lascaux. The bottom two shots are details of Notre Dame.

2004
On this South American jaunt I hit up Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina. Hiked in the Andes, hit the deep south for penguins and sea lions and relentless wind, visited glaciers and Lake Fitzroy. And sported a doo rag.
